Our name says it all, we offer the best quality, fresh produce with full traceability. We believe that everyone has the right to make as fully informed choices as possible about the food they eat. However, this is impossible if you don’t know where your food has come from or what has gone into it. If you care about where your food comes from, shop at Provenance, as we care about where your food comes from too!

Their Story

Well back in June 2015, the suspense was finally over and the new shop “Provenance” in Westhoughton was born! Many people had walked past over the previous months wanting to know what they were doing but they wanted to keep it as a surprise.

There was even a page on Facebook and some very interesting suggestions of what the shop would become! Who would have thought that the shop that was once Tinniswoods toys would be back in the family after 20 years!

So how did Provenance come about? They are real foodies. They love cooking for family and friends and they care passionately about the quality of their food and where it is from. They, therefore, prefer to shop at the local butcher, greengrocer, and baker but find it difficult after a day in the office, the school run, and then numerous kids clubs.

They hate the pre-packaged, uninviting, uninspiring food in the supermarket but find it convenient in our busy lives. They miss the personal, old-fashioned service that makes shopping pleasurable which is lost in supermarkets. Therefore they decided to do something about it and they decided to open Provenance!

They wanted to give the local community a practical alternative to the supermarket which was convenient but provided good quality, fresh produce at reasonable prices. So they combined butchers (originally Beazleys), a baker’s and (not candlestick makers), but greengrocers and deli, all under one roof! (Oh and tearooms, because they love cake and meeting up with friends!). They wanted to give you specialty goods alongside staples so they personally tasted every product that they stock.

It was a hard job but someone had to do it! they wanted to provide you with fantastic service, so they chose friendly, smiley, knowledgeable staff to make you happy and give you a great shopping experience. After all, they are a family company.

They also wanted to make it as easy as possible for you to access amazing local food so although they would love you to visit them, they are looking into an online system so they will have your shopping ready for when you collect it. They simply created a food hall where they would love to shop and hope you will too!

That is an amazing story of a long-standing family business deciding to provide quality nourishment for the whole community, simply genius!
