About Allen Transport
William Allen (Bolton) Limited was incorporated in 1923. Peter Allen is third generation and maintains a hands on day-to-day role within this family organisation.We have evolved organically and have, over time, strategically increased our modern, LEZ compliant fleet to its current size. All vehicles are fitted with tracking systems and are fully maintained with full 24-hour breakdown cover included.
Our dedicated team offers a flexible approach to your needs and you will always be able to speak to somebody who has knowledge of your account. All staff are fully qualified within the haulage industry and hold current Driver CPC and fork lift/Moffett qualifications.

A Bolton haulage business operating from Long Lane, Westhoughton, Bolton is providing work for the fourth generation of the founder’s family, transporting goods made in the Bolton area to destinations near and far. It is a story which has developed over a period spanning nearly eighty years, and one which has seen many changes and developments over the years.
It all began when William Allen (a coal merchant) procured an ex-army Pagefield with solid tyres towards the close of the first world war and used it to transport coal to the local cotton mills. He was based at Astley Bridge at the time.
Williams son, Dan, ran the haulage business till 1943. Tom Allen (Dan’s brother) acquiring a fleet of Albion trucks, was responsible for the firm until his death in 1969 leaving his sons Richard and William at the helm.
The original premises soon became inadequate for their purposes and so only three years after the firm began it moved from Astley Bridge to Wardle Street, Darcy Lever in 1920 where it remained until 1954. Other moves have been necessary as the firm developed. In 1954 it moved to Cannon Street, Bolton, where it traded for ten years before moving back to Waters Meeting in Astley Bridge in 1965, as more space was necessary with the undertaking of storage facilities and articulated road vehicles.
The most recent move in 1997 was to Long Lane, Westhoughton where the new location is particularly beneficial to the firms as it is located adjacent to the Wingates Industrial Park, and yet still enabling them to continue to serve the Bolton area industries.

If transport is already pre-arranged to & from warehouse, we will work with your chosen haulier to ensure the goods are successfully moved into our facilities.

Our fleet, obtained from various manufacturers, are top of the line with included specifications that meet both the driver’s needs and the needs of Allen Transport’s customers. Trailers, whilst similar in design, are in many cases built internally to meet the needs of our clientèle by varying internal heights and fittings, also the use of Moffett M4 25.3 lorry mounted forklifts are available upon request.

If you don’t have loading or unloading capabilities, then let our Moffetts do it for you. Truck-mounted forklifts, with Mounty or forklift options, operated by our experienced, fully-qualified personnel, are an ideal, flexible and cost-effective solution.
FORS Accreditation
We are pleased to announce that William Allen Bolton Limited has been awarded FORS Silver accreditation.
FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) is only awarded to hauliers demonstrating the highest levels of fleet management with emphasis on the safety of other road users.
The FORS audit is an intensive test of how well we run our fleet in terms of safety, driver training, efficiency, environmental concern and many other aspects of quality of management. William Allen’s Vehicles are now fitted with extra equipment to improve the safety of and awareness to other road users.
FORS will soon be a mandatory requirement for delivery into some London boroughs, hauliers without FORS may well be refused access to delivery points in the future if they are not compliant.
